COVID-19 Training for Healthcare Providers

Course

The COVID-19 training module is designed to educate healthcare providers (HCP) how to protect themselves and others while mitigating community transmission of COVID-19 However, exposures to transmissible respiratory pathogens in healthcare facilities can often be reduced or possibly avoided through engineering and administrative controls and PPE.

Healthcare personnel (HCP) are on the front lines of caring for patients with confirmed or possible infection with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and therefore have an increased risk of exposure to this virus. HCPs can minimize their risk of exposure when caring for confirmed or possible COVID-19 patients by following Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Patients with Confirmed Coronavirus Disease

The following training will teach healthcare providers methods of protecting and mitigating community transmission of COVID-19. The contents of this course are taken from government sources and organizations.

Benefits of an Online Course

There are many advantages to taking an online course. Online courses are flexible and convenient. You can work them around your busy schedule. You’re allowed to take this course on your own time and in the environment of your choice. It can improve skills of self-management and self-discipline. This course can be easily taken and easily administered.

Important Information for Healthcare Workers

Healthcare professionals are dealing with patients who have confirmed or possible COVID-19 infections every day. This means healthcare professionals have an increased risk of infection with COVID-19. It is important to know how it spreads to minimize that risk. Through this course, you will learn how COVID-19 spreads and when close contact occurs with an infected individual.

To mitigate these close contact situations there are ways to extensively protect yourself. When caring for patients with COVID-19, providers should adhere to CDC recommendations for protecting themselves.

Healthcare providers should ensure the environment is routinely cleaned and disinfected.

Preparedness

It is important for every healthcare provider to have a plan and process to evaluate whether or not someone has contracted COVID-19. Review CDC and recommendations for COVID-19 mitigation measures.

If a patient does not require hospitalization it is important to assess the risk of home care using six criteria. Through this course, you’ll learn about these six factors when determining whether home care is appropriate.

Telehealth

Telehealth allows healthcare providers to screen for COVID-19 while eliminating the risk. You will learn about the other benefits of telehealth through this course.

Infection Control

The recommendations to control infections include minimizing opportunities for exposure. Through this course, you will learn how to minimize exposure prior to and during a visit.

Healthcare professionals should follow safety protocols and procedures at all times. These are in place to mitigate exposure and infections within the community.

Place patients that have confirmed or suspected COVID-19 in a room where they are. Take precautions when conducting activities that may generate aerosols from the patient.

Additionally, it is important to manage visitors and patient interactions within the facility.

Through this course, you will learn the important procedures essential to mitigating COVID-19 exposures within your facility.

Exposure Control

You will learn about the Hierarchy of Control. Healthcare settings are special because you cannot entirely remove the risk.

There are three strategies for controlling infections. The first strategy is to physically separate the danger from healthcare professionals. The second is to implement processes and procedures to reduce the chance of exposure. The third is to use respiratory protective devices like N95 masks.

Personal Protective Equipment

Through this course, you will learn how to appropriately use personal protective equipment. There is an extensive process for putting on and taking off personal protective equipment in a way that is safe and with a low risk of exposure.

Preparation for the Arrival of Patients with Infectious Diseases

When patients arrive with confirmed or possible COVID-19, it is vital to plan ahead and follow the established processes.

Additionally, having a telehealth option for patients allows patients with possible or confirmed COVID-19 to seek healthcare in an entirely safe, virtual space.

Vaccines

Vaccination is an important part of mitigating COVID-19 infections. The CDC recommends getting an mRNA vaccine. The CDC recommended COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. It is especially important that healthcare providers keep their vaccination status updated.
