Growth Hormone Might Affect Weight Loss

It is hard to keep weight off after dieting because the growth hormone helps your body conserve energy when food is limited. When there is a limited amount of food your body stores energy that comes from food so that it can survive.  When hungry, the growth hormone can increase the growth of metabolism and metabolic responses.

Leptin is an important hormone in the process of weight loss. The hormone is useful when fat cells are releasing Leptin into the bloodstream due to dieting. This creates a feeling of hunger in the body and when people cannot produce or develop Leptin then they are more likely to feel hungry more often. When you are in a calorie deficit or restriction, levels of Leptin decrease while GH levels increase.

Growth hormones are in the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that helps with the release of hormones. The hypothalamus also helps control functions such as breathing and digestion in the body. While also playing a role in food intake for the body. Scientist believes that compounds might be able to “target GH receptors”, this could potentially help facilitate weight loss and help with obesity in the future.
