Strategies

There are eight aspects of cultural competency. First, it is important to have a broad definition of culture. Professionals should value various cultural beliefs and practices. Professionals should recognize the complexities. Education leads to understanding. Lastly, it’s important to branch out to external sources if needed.

Cultural competence is the idea of existing in various cultural settings and understanding the needs of other cultural groups. Awareness, sensitivity, and knowledge are not inherently included in this concept. Cultural competence involves conceptual action and change.

CLAS Standards

CLAS is an acronym that stands for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services. The goal of these standards is to improve equity and equality in healthcare.

The main purpose of this standard is to provide quality care that is responsive to the needs of diverse cultural groups. It is important to educate employees to ensure equity in healthcare between all groups and all cultures.

For individuals with language needs, facilitate access to services that provide linguistic assistance. Avoid hiring unqualified professionals to conduct this assistance.

In addition to having appropriate organization goals, you should also assess occurrences that are related to CLAS measures. Assessments should occur in regard to the needs of each community.
