Hairstylists Test Positive for Coronavirus
At a Great Clips in Missouri, two hairstylists showed up to work with symptoms of COVID-19. Both stylists tested positive for coronavirus. After working for as many as 8 days, the hairstylists exposed their coworkers and about 140 clients to the coronavirus. Neither of them gave information on their symptoms or when their tests came back positive.
This happened after Missouri began to open up some businesses, like salons, in the middle of May.
According to the Health Department, both the employees and customers wore face coverings. The Health Department is hopeful no more cases will arise from this incident because of the face coverings.
The salon’s records are making it easy to notify and offer testing to the exposed clients.
The Springfield-Green County Health Department director, Clay Goddard, stated: “I’m going to be honest with you: we can’t have many more of these. We can’t make this a regular habit or our capabilities as a community will be strained.”
He added that the salon is safe because Great Clips is using the correct cleaning methods.
The salon’s owner released a response: “The well-being of Great Clips customers and stylists in the salon is our top priority and proper sanitization has always been an important cosmetology industry practice for Great Clips salons. We’ve closed the salon where the employee works and it’s currently undergoing additional sanitizing and deep cleaning.”
Johns Hopkins has reported coronavirus cases in the United States has passed 1.6 million. Of these confirmed cases, over 12,000 are in Missouri.
