Cal/OSHA has recently proposed an emergency update to a pre-existing regulation. It would require employers in California to electronically submit occupational injury and illness information to OSHA by December 31, 2018. The action was issue on October 10th, so hopefully it will get approved in time.

The regulation itself only has minor edits, but it still maintains its importance. The amendment seems to be in relation to the country-wide OSHA regulation which stopped the usage of Forms 300 and 301.

In the new Cal/OSHA amendment, it urges establishments with over 250 employees to use Form 300A to submit information regarding workplace illness or injury.

The idea behind the update is to is make it easier for employers to maintain compliance. Not only that, but to ease the burden of employees tasked with submitting the forms to begin with. After all, submitting one form is less taxing than submitting two. Especially if this submitting these forms becomes a common thing.

It prevents both employees and employers from cutting corners in their submissions of injury and illness reports. As a result, it will actually help with employee safety and employer compliance.
