National Women’s Health Week is led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. It is observed every year on Mother’s Day and the week after.
The goal of Women’s Health a Week is to empower women to make their health a priority with ambassadors like Miss USA Nia Sanchez. To do so, the Office on Women’s Health has set up five goals for women to strive for.
- Regular check-ups: regular check-ups can prevent diseases, disabilities and injuries.
- Exercise: regular exercise decreases the possibilities of heart disease.
- Healthy diet: on top of fruits and vegetables, women need folic aside everyday for new skin, hair and nail cells.
- Mental Health: every adult should aim for at least seven hours of sleep and healthy ways to cope with stress.
- Healthy behaviors: everyday activities like not smoking, using sunscreen and using prescription medicine as directly all influence overall health.
To create awareness, the Office on Women’s Health asks that people take time to organize events, take the National Women’s Health Week pledge or simply using the campaigns hashtag #NWHW.
