Healthcare Violence, Course Highlight

Less than a month ago, a shooting occurred at the Capital Gazette newspaper chain without any notice. Consider working in a Northern United States Office, which is relatively low risk. Also, consider the healthcare field where workplace violence is highly prevalent. What’s more, healthcare violence is the leading type of workplace violence according to OSHA. It is important to equip employees to maintain a safe work environment and provide the tools in the case that an emergency occurs.

At American Medical Compliance, we offer a course that addresses the needs of your healthcare organization entitled Controlling Violence in Healthcare V3. This course may require about 30-45 minutes participation. The learning objectives of the course are to

  • Define the risk factors for healthcare violence.

  • List and understand your responsibilities.

  • Identify the steps that can be taken to control violence in healthcare settings.

Within these objectives, the course highlights demographics affected and the impact of incidents. Additionally, this course identifies areas of risk with a couple of review questions to help make the learning interactive. Additionally, violence intervention strategies are identified including verbal de-escalation and pharmacology, as well as physical barriers.

Consider one security survey which indicates the effects of  the risks associated with near misses may affect staff morale, litigation, security costs, as well as productivity very similarly to actual incidents or threats.

Even if your business has a near-miss, the psychological effects on employees and patients may damage business.

All in all, it’s much better to mitigate risk to avoid facing the consequences of a serious or near-miss incident. Without doubt, healthcare violence is a serious issue. Your healthcare organization must equip itself to avoid an emergency.

Furthermore, American Medical Compliance dedicates time to ensure healthcare professionals and organizations are OSHA and HIPAA compliant. Additionally, we offer a wide array of easily accessible and affordable online training software administered through our learning management software. Click here to get compliant today.
