What does First Aid Consist of?

As previously mentioned, first aid typically is very brief and does not require any special knowledge or technology. Additionally, first aid can include cleaning minor cuts, scrapes, or scratches, treating a minor burn, and applying bandages and dressings. It can also include the use of non-prescription medicine, draining blisters, removing debris from the eyes, massages, and drinking fluids to relieve heat stress. Also, OSHA stated in 2002 that although this type of care may occur often, it is not required to be reported.

First Aid is a Practical Skill

While a first aid kit is an important tool, any tool is only as good as the person using it. First-aid kits are also a place where personal needs and practical skills come together. In addition, there are ways to prepare for emergencies that have nothing to do with collecting supplies. This includes learning practical skills that you can use to protect yourself and others. Some helpful practical skills include CPR, using an AED, and how to apply a tourniquet, among other skills.
