June: Dr. Fauci COVID-19 Updates

As many states are loosening their social distancing restrictions, the number of COVID-19 cases is still rising. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was recently interviewed about COVID-19 in the United States.

According to Dr. Fauci, Britain and European Union travelers will not be able to come into the U.S. for months. He stated: “I don’t think there’s going to be an immediate pull back for those kinds of restrictions. My feeling, looking at what’s going on with the infection rate, I think it’s more likely measured in months rather than weeks.”

The Future for the United States

Dr. Fauci also weighed in on where the country will be in the future. “I would hope to get to some degree of real normality within a year or so. But I don’t think it’s this winter or fall, we’ll be seeing it for a bit more” he explained. Experts believe there will be multiple waves of the coronavirus.

Scientists have been working on a COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Fauci is hopeful that a successful vaccine could be ready by the end of the year. He said: “You can never guarantee success with a vaccine, that’s foolish to do so, there’s so many possibilities of things going wrong. [But] everything we have seen from early results, it’s conceivable we get two or three vaccines that are successful.”
