Ebola resurfaces as three cases were confirmed only two months after Liberia was declared Ebola-free.

The announcement was made when blood samples from a patient admitted in a hospital tested positive for Ebola. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Liberia was Ebola-free in September.

Two high-risk contacts also tested positive. All three patients are undergoing care at an Ebola treatment center in Monrovia.

According to WHO spokeswoman, Margaret Ann Harris, more than 40 contacts are being monitored.

“The Ministry of Health is announcing the fourth wave of the Ebola virus,” said Dr. Bernice Dahn, Liberia’s health minister. “Currently, we have three confirmed cases.”

More than 11,300 people died from the virus and 28,600 were infected,  according to the latest WHO data.

“It is possible that we will find more cases,” said Dr. Bernice Dahn. “The key is to stop it, find the source, and prevent the next one.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports:
“The 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in history, affecting multiple countries in West Africa. Two imported cases, including one death, and two locally acquired cases in healthcare workers were reported in the United States. CDC and partners are taking precautions to prevent additional cases of Ebola in the United States.”
