New spinach research conducted by Maria Parr. Spinach is a super food that has many benefits. Some of the benefits include calcium, magnesium, and iron. Spinach is good for “keeping cancer at bay, preventing asthma, lowering blood pressure, and helping those with diabetes manager their condition” says author Ana Sandoiu. One of the most common benefits of spinach is the extract that can help improve muscle strength.
A benefit of spinach that researchers are studding focuses on muscles strength. The research shows that spinach could help improve muscle strength for people who do physical activity. Spinach increases protein in places such as skeletal muscle. The phytosteriod that was researched during the study was known as Ecdysterone. Finally, The type of study that was done was a double blind study where 46 people were studied. The researcher chose 46 young athletic people to study for 10 weeks. During the research, the athletes either took a placebo or the extract Ecdysterone to see the effects on performance during the physical activity. The results showed that the people who took the extract had higher increases in their muscles mass compared to the participants who received the placebo.
Did you know that the extra Ecdysterone was once used as a performance enhancing drug by olympic athletes in the 1980’s. Most commonly used for strength performance boosting by Russian athletes. (Sandoiu)
