OSHA Citation After Electrocution

OSHA has recently cited Insight Pipe Contracting LLC of Harmony, Pennsylvania following an employee’s electrocution. The incident occurred during a trenchless sewer repair. The employee was fatally injured, and two additional employees who attempted to help were hospitalized as a result.

According to OSHA, “OSHA cited the company for failing to develop and implement procedures for confined space entry; train employees on confined space hazards; conduct atmospheric testing before permitting entry into a sewer line; use a retrieval line; and complete proper permits.”

The company faces fines up to $331,101. They have 15 days from the citation to comply.

While there is no doubt the death and injuries were accidental, it still remains a preventable tragedy. Had the company been in compliance with OSHA prior to the accident, it is likely that the death could’ve been prevented altogether. At the end of the day, prevention is always a more viable option.

Compliance isn’t always easy, but OSHA compliance can mean the difference between life and death. Employee safety should always be the number one priority of any company.
