The following Cultural Competency and Disability Awareness for Dental Healthcare Providers training is designed to educate dental healthcare providers (DHCP) about the significance, principles, and standards of cultural competence, and provides awareness of disability inclusion and how to care for people with disabilities.
The United States has a major division when looking at a person’s culture, race, and ethnicity. Despite recent progress in overall national health, disparities continue in the incidence of illness and death among African Americans, Latino/Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Alaska Natives, and Pacific Islanders, as compared with the US population as a whole. In addition, health and human service organizations are recovering the need to enhance services for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Providing culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare services requires an understanding of cultural competence.
