The HPV vaccine is regarded as one of the most important for women to obtain. A new study has shown that one dose is as effective as the usual two to three most women get. Also, the study was conducted by the U.S. National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey between 2009 to 2016.
Because of the stigma surrounding the vaccine, researchers believe that the findings will help the female population around the world. The Center for Disease Control says that an 86% decrease in genital warts was observed when girls were inoculated. Cancers are also known to drop.
The one-time aspect of the vaccine will lower the stigma of getting it in the first place. Ashish Deshmukh, the study author, says that there is still much more research to be done into the matter. Men were not included in the initial study and all of the findings were self-reported.
There is now a new trial underway in both the United States and Costa Rica to determine whether or not there is any merit to the initial findings.
The CDC still recommends following through with the HPV shots, because they have a long protection rate. There is no evidence that their protection decreases over time.
